Support the South Whidbey Courts

As of today we have met our goal to raise $50,000 in local funds to support the construction of public pickleball courts on South Whidbey!

If you would like to continue to support pickleball on South Whidbey, find out how to donate below. Let's keep the momentum going!

Whether you play at the outdoor courts, the Barn, Breezeway, Court of Dreams or other venues, can we all come together to support building the SWPR courts? Invest in the future, this is good for all of us.

BACKGROUND

The South Whidbey Parks and Recreation District (SWPRD) is in the process of implementing grants from the state that will build outdoor pickleball courts at the SWPRD Sports Complex on Langley Road. As part of the state process there is a requirement for local funds in addition to the state grants. The local funding target was set at $50,000 in order to meet the state requirement of 10% matching local funds.

In 2022 Whidbey Island Pickleball (WIP) asked local players and supporters to pledge money for this requirement and the target was reached in three weeks. We are entering the phase when pledges and donations now need to be raised. The South Whidbey Parks and Aquatics Foundation (SWPAF), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization has agreed to be the fiscal sponsor, meaning that donations can be made to them for the purposes of the Pickleball Courts Project Fund and be eligible for tax deductions.

The SWPAF will be responsible for accounting for the donated fund, acknowledgement to the donor, making requested disbursements for paying bills for the courts project, and making periodic reports. It is likely that funds in addition to those currently pledged will be needed for additional items and amenities of interest to our community’s pickleball players, so donations in addition to those previously pledged will certainly be accepted! We are also discussing how to acknowledge donations over $500, perhaps with plaques at the courts. For information on the initial design options presented in June and July 2024, CLICK HERE.
